Interpretation:
The oral translation of what is said in one language into another, so that speakers of different languages can communicate.

Interpretation services are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Translations Unit offers both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting and will be responsible for determining the most appropriate technique for your meeting. It is extremely important that you plan your meetings ahead of time and notify us immediately of your interpreting needs. The Translations Unit offers interpretation in the following languages:

Armenian
Chinese
Vietnamese
Korean
Sign Language
Spanish
Russian

(Some Resources in Hebrew & Polish)

In order to receive interpreting services, carefully read and complete a Interpretation Request Form. Make sure you complete all the pertinent information on the form and submit it to the Translations Unit. Due to the high volume of daily requests, please make sure to call to confirm receipt of your request.

Once your request has been received, you will be contacted before the scheduled meeting to confirm or to discuss the availability of interpreters, interpreting equipment and technicians (if applicable). If there are any changes in the location or starting/ending time of the meeting, or if the meeting has been canceled, please notify the Translations Unit immediately.

If you are planning a conference with workshops, please indicate, on the request form, the number of workshops and submit a copy of the agenda of the meeting. This will help us better prepare ourselves in order to provide the service you need.

The Translations Unit does not service meetings that begin at 12:00 p.m. or later on Saturdays, or held on Sundays, holidays or during extended holiday. In addition, graduation ceremonies are not covered.

Only fully LAUSD-sponsored meetings are covered.
